Sticky residue from tiles

We are planning on installing the floating vinyl flooring. We have started removing the peel and stick tile from the area. Of course the subfloor is very sticky now. What can be done to remove the sticky residue. I searched and read a few posts and answers but there was alot of back and forth about using solvents in the house. What is the best approach. I do have an 8month old baby in the house to be concerned about. Thanks.

What is a "floating vinyl floor"?

Sprinkle baby powder on it and scrape it off.

To me its linoleum, but they called it a no glue vinyl flooring at Menards.

About the baby powder, I guess I will ask. Are you serious or joking around since I mentioned my baby.

Thanks to all for the replies.

I'm serious. The baby powder will make it so you can scrape it up.

So is that one of the old fashion "perimeter glued" vinyls or something new?

Corn meal also works. It is probably less expensive (than powder) and easier to disperse. Broadcast it, sweep/move it around, walk it in a little and go to scraping.

Both legitimate methods...weird huh?Necessity-the mother of invention.

.
Linoleum and vinyl are two entirely different products. They may have called it floating but it's not. It's loose lay. The old perimeter glue was a floating floor. They are still made, but don't sell very well.

So Rusty, now they don't attach them in any way??? They just throw them down and walk away???

I walked away from my last flooring store six years ago and never went back so I'm not totally up on some of the new products that I don't routinely deal with.

Yes. You leave a gap like with laminate. IMHO, They are temporary, just like laminate, too.

I suppose people will buy just about anything these days if the price looks good compared to the real stuff. I guess it is another (You can do it, we can help.) product.

They made the stuff so anyone with a small amount of common sense can iinstall it. As proof, here is a man you know installing it.

I'm not even going to look but I suppose it is Jim Walker, Master Installer taught by Jim Walker and Certified Installer certified by Jim Walker. Am I close?
