Stick-on tile over Stick-on tile
I have seen various threads about stick-on tile and laying it over different surfaces. I have a bathroom with some pretty old stick-on tile and we want to replace it with a more current style. The old tile is not chipped or peeling and over all in very good shape. It was a low traffic bathroom and from what I can tell there are no water stains at the base of the walls so I do not suspect any water damage to the subfloor.

My question is can we stick the new tile over the old tile? And if I do would it help to overlat the old seams with the new tile and create new seams with the new tile.

another layer of tile is going to raise floor height effecting fixtures, baseboard, threshold. Your best option might be to pull up the old stuff first. Yes its more work but it better then adjusting for added height and not knowing if new tile will bond long term to the old layer.

i can be and has been done.... i tore up a kitchen floor once that had 2 layers of tiles stuck on a one-sheet lino floor! not that i'd advise it, but it can be done. if you do it, i'd suggest lapping seams and be sure it's plenty clean----sweep and mop thoroughly. but what do i know? i'm just a cartoon mouse.....
