staples vs nails

I believe we are going to install solid 3/4" solid white oak flooring. Probably 3.25" width or larger, don't know yet. I was in a small contractor supplier type store the other day that specializes in selling mostly pneumatic nail & staple guns. I had read a few blogs that staples were superior to nails in holding strength. However, the guy informed me that in his experience, nails are a better choice for solid 3/4" flooring and staples are a better choice if your permanetely securing engineered flooring. Any consensus or disagreements from users/readers? I have 3/4" plywood subfloor on 16" O.C. 2X10 joists.

I've got one of each and prefer the stapler over the cleat nailer. One difference is I install mostly pine which is a soft wood which allows the nails to pull through too easily.

I've installed prefinished hardwood oak with the stapler with no ill effects.

Do one thing at a time, do it well, then move on.

Based on my experience, the staples hold a bit better.

I've installed hardwood with both and they both are good. I've ripped out hardwood with both and had a much tougher time with the staples. Oh, and use 2" length with either one.
