Staples or Nails

One friend says staples. Other says they aren't as good as nails. Who's right?

Putting down 3/4" x 3 1/4" oak.

Not a wood guy, but my oak floor was nailed and has held up okay. It was installed in 1906.

103 years! Guess that's one vote for nails.

I've demo'd a lot of floors over the years. Nails & staples. The stapled floors came up a lot easier than the nailed floors.

Nails get my vote, but...... you may be able to get your friends to each install 1/2 of your floor, one with staples one with nails and see who is right.
You know, the old Huck Finn trick.....lol

Maybe I'm just to old school but I've never had an issue with a nailed floor except when pulling one up.

I know some of the flooring manufacturers specify nails and prohibit staples. Not all do that. I also like the fact that flooring nails have serrated edges that prevent them from coming out.
