I recently had my staircase refinished. I painted the kick boards white. Where the kick board meets the stair there are some gaps on a few of the steps. Im guessing its just age and house settling. Is there anything someone would recommend to fill those gaps? I tested a spot with a caulk but with the grain on the wood it doesnt look clean so I quickly cleaned it up before it set.
Any suggestions or is something you just live with
If you use a good putty knife with a good sharp square edge, you can caulk the gap then use the putty knife to clean the caulk off the tread and form a good square edge on the caulk. It looks like the white is just extended on down and it will not be noticeable.

You only needed enough caulking to fill the gap, not all over the tread or riser.
Tiny hole is the tip, light touch on the handle, wipe down with your finger then wipe again with a damp sponge to remove the excess.
