How do I begin to tear off my carpeting from my basement stairs?

stair carpet

Go to the top(most carpet is installed from the bottom up) grab a corner with pliers and pull as you go back down the stairs. If it's stretched in over pad, it will come off easily. If it's glued on, maybe not.
