When was the hardwood installed?
You can look for gaps between your joist and plywood but really hard to say if it's the hardwood or ply wood. You can put wedges between joist and plywood see if that helps in the caps if u have any.

You can also try that but check for gaps 1st this way you know we're to start.

I had good luck using metal brackets that pull down the subfloor from below made by Squeakender. I used 4 and got rid of 2 major squeaks. You have to be able to isolate the squeak pretty close, and have access...for example one was difficult because it was above my duct work.

I've lived in a number of old houses with squeaky floors. As noted, the cause can be either movement of the subfloor relative to joists, or movement of the floor relative to the subfloor. First thing to try is wood shims between the joists and subfloor. If that does not remove the squeak, then 1" screws shot through the subfloor into the floor. It is worth measuring to ensure that you get the screw centered on the hardwood strips as if you hit a seam between boards it does not do much good.
