Squeaky floors

I have an older house, beautiful original hardwood floors, problem is they are a bit (a lot) squeaky. I know you can go down in the basement and tap in shims between the floor and the joists, but unfortunately the duct work leaves a good percentage of the floor unworkable. Other than removing all the ducting and fixing, or pounding in nails from above, any solutions?

How old? In the older houses there is usually 1x4 skip sheeting---then 1x2 sleepers--then the hardwood

Often,with that many layers and all those nails--squeaks are just going to happen--not much you can do.

If you decide to try screwing or nailing---remember--there is usually electrical conduit in with the sleepers--(shocking thought,eh?)---Mike---

The house is about 90 years old
The wiring has been mostly been replaced (it use to be the old knob and tubing type), and is now all visible in the basement. From a quick look, most of the wires seem to be accounted for, running along the joists in the basement, then going straight up into the wall cavities above.
