The house is a 1980's ranch in Oregon. The house had new carpet laid recently, before I bought the house. They did not quiet the sqeaks in the floor boards before they laid the carpet. My question is what is the best way, the right way, to quiet the squeaks and pops that I hear when walking accross the floor? On top of the subfloor is particle board. On the advice of a friend I sunk a finish nail through the carpet in one spot, a test spot. This worked, so I tried it again in another room and it just made things worse in that room.
I have heard worse in other houses so I know this is not a really serious issue, but it is something I really notice. My last place had a Concrete slab so there was nothing to squeak, I loved that.
Thanks for that information. I purchased the squeeeeeek no more snap off screw kit, my local hardware store carried this and it was only 20 bucks. So far I have quieted a few spots that really bothered me, in high traffic areas. THis product seems to work really good. :D Thanks again.
