Soundproofing hardwood floor

I recently moved into a condo that has hardwood floors. The people from the unit below are complaining they can hear me walking especially when I'm in the living room and kitchen area because that is right about their bed room. Is there any way to dampen the sound from walking with out having to rip up the wood floors and put something else down?

Thanks

To be honest, it's isn't your problem. If the condos were built without proper insulation between the floors there is nothing you can do about it. I understand trying to be nice about it, but if you neighbor is anal enough to complain about hearing you walk to begin with then they should be willing to take steps to correct it instead of complaining to you about it.

You can put down area rugs, but while that may dampen the footfalls, what if a floor board squeaks?

Carpets will probably reduce your problem, but not in any major way. I suggest you get some serious soundproofing done.

Nitpicking, but I suggest THEY get some serious soundproofing done. Walking in your own home (unless you're wearing wooden clogs) is not excessive noise!
