Size of laminate layout before t-joints are needed

Hi,

I'm having laminate flooring installed in my basement (below grade) and was told that "baby t-joint" have to be used at every doorway as the floor area is too big. The total square footage is around 1000. I'm concerned because the joints doesn't make the floor look as nice and it also divide up the area and make it look smaller. My question is, how big an area before joints are needed (for expansion)? I'm thinking that the contractor may be trying to cutting corner as it is easier to just put a t-joint at the door than to lay it all the way out. Also have anyone heard of the brand QuickStep? How is the quality? Please advise.

Thank you.

30 feet long in a big room is the general rule.
It is always good to use t moldings in doorways because it helps the floor expand and contract seperately, although it is not always a NEED.
