Shower Floor - Too much mortar to make up 1/2" gap?
Beginner here..I'm custom building a very small 36" x 36" shower. I've established the base flooring by pre-sloping using a 4 to 1 cement mix, then covered it with the rubber membrane, then added another layer of 4 to 1 cement. After installing the backerboard walls, I notice the outer edges of the sloped inward floor is not completely flush with the bottom of the backerboard walls. The largest gap is 1/2".
Can I make up this space by floating extra thinset morter when laying tile over the concrete shower floor? I fear using too much mortar, causing problems down the road. Advice appreciated!
The backer is usually installed before the pan is packed---Did you do the pan first?
If so---pack the gap with thinset as you tile---
