Sheet vinyl over parquet floor?

Can I put sheet vinyl over a parquet floor? Should I scuff it up first with sandpaper? Maybe put luan down before hand? What do you think?

Why would you want to? Parquet is a much nicer floor.

In my neck of the woods it is generally considered ugly and way oudated.

You're right most parquet floors are dated. You need to remove the parquet down to the subfloor, don't put anything over it.

What type of room is this?

It is in a 6x10 foot bathroom. Ripping it up should be fun....is there any tips to getting the glue off the subfloor (and the "subfloor" in this house is actually strip oak flooring attached directly to the joists-thats how they did it back in 1930)

Don't worry about the adhesive, you'll have to install new plywood over it anyway. Just knock off any high spots. After you re-screw to sub. you can decide how thick the underlayment needs to be. Choose 3/8" or thicker. Make sure it's rated as an underlayment and the plies are bonded with exterior glue.
