Shaw vs. Quick Step
My husband and I are in the process of deciding on what type of laminate flooring to put in our family room in our basement. It is a newer construction split level. We have no kids but we do have a large dog. We have narrowed it down to Shaw Radiant Luster Vienna (has the pad already attached) and Quick Step 700 series Gunstock Red Oak. I like the Quick Step and he likes the Shaw. Any opinions as to which is better? Why? We will be doing the installation ourself, either one easier to install?

Both are good products. I am not sure about Shaw but Quickstep is all made in the USA if that matters.
I have had success with both products so I would flip a coin....

I'll have to try and pull stats on the Shaw piece. The website says little on it at this point. It's a 9/16" thick product. The Quickstep 700 is their budget line I believe. 7mm which is more like 4/16 - 5/16. So based on that I'd say the Shaw piece is probably the better of the two.

The Shaw product is made in the USA also. Matter of fact, its made about a mile down the road from the plant I work at.

That is what is hindering my decision. I can't find anything online about the Shaw. I do see that the QS is listed as having the seal of approval by the NALFA where there are 3 shaw lines listed but I don't think that the one I am looking at is one of them.

also is the thickness of the shaw deceiving due to the fact that the shaw has the underlay attached where the QS doesn't?

Both are so close in quality that the differences will not mean anything in your life.
Both are made well, and both have warranties that are backed up by good manufacturers.
It's like the difference between a twinkie and a Hoho. Sure there's a difference, but they are both good.

Shaw is indeed 100% US made..You can view their website, a berkshire.hathaway company, it is a quality product...

I am not sure what it was called. It has a foil backing and is green in color. It looks like it may be made from recycled products. Does my description help any?
