Setting mesh tile in sanded grout

I am wondering if it is possible to set 2x2 mesh backed tile in sanded grout instead of thinset. The tile is thin and the thinset squeezes in between the tiles making it a nightmare to clean out before grouting.

Quick answer is no. BTW, you are doing it wrong. Read the directions, and info at http://www.johnbridge.com/
