Self Stick Vinyl Plank on Painted Concrete

We are preparing to install self stick vinyl plank flooring in our basement. We have ordered StyleSelections brand from Lowe's and was advised by the store associate to apply Self-stick tile primer on our concrete floor before installing the planks. We have now discovered after removing the carpet that the concrete has been painted. Every thing that we have read so far says to remove the paint. We have 750 square feet and have not found an easy was to do that. Has anyone ever installed vinyl planks over painted concrete?

There are a couple articles out there that speak to using muriatic acid to remove paint from concrete. Is that an option in lieu of sticking it to paint?

Scuff the paint with sandpaper---add the liquid bond enhancer --then place the tiles--

Do not use any chemicals on the concrete--it will soak in and spoil the bond after the tiles are installed--

I doubt Muriatic Acid would do much to paint. Regardless, that is not what it's for. It's used to attack (breakdown) concrete and to lower PH. It is NOT to be used INDOOR, can be dangerous.

The success with going over paint in this installation is contingent on the paint staying stuck. Often paint will peel, especially over concrete, x 10 when below grade such as this.

I would never use peel and stick on that floor.

Dont use acid...If u live where it gets cold, the room will be much colder now without the carpet. I suggest using the insullated subfloor squares that lock together underneath. They are sold at Lowes and HD. Paint it with vinyl primer then vinyl flooring sticks on to it.
If u dont need insullatuon or moisture protection, consider floating floor such as laminate or floating vinyl planks.

Laminite would not be my first choice for any below grade floor.
Most are not even below grade rated.
