Self adhesive stair runner

Has anyone had experience using the self-adhesive type of stair runners sold at the big box stores? I have seen some at Menards:

We have 36" wide steps that we'd like to carpet, but not sure if this will be a long term thing, so don't want to stick a lot into these. Or is a runner/carpet tape a better option? I think if we decide to redo the rest of the floors the stairs would be redone, thus the possible short-term idea. We just want to carpet them in the meantime for the dog, and the rest of us. The dog is the most sure-footed of all of us, which isn't saying a lot...

personally I would not risk it. I would not be willing to risk the carpet slipping out from under me. Stairs get a lot of use and this just seems way too risky for me. Having a little bit of tape holding everything in place is not a good idea. I would simply go to the carpet discount store and pick up something like an industrial grade carpet and install that. JMHO.

At least make sure you have a lot of insurance. :whistling2:

Not the best idea. I would wait a year and if Menard's is still selling that product this time next then reconsider it.

Yeah, we've decided to get a better quality runner and use a combination of high quality carpet tape and bars. Thanks for the thoughts!

Your best to fit them with underlay and carpet grippers
