Question

Sealing Concrete Garage Floor

I just bought a new home, and I would like to seal the garage floor. Its concrete. Does anyone have any suggestion about what to use? I was thinking epoxy but I didn't know if it was likely to pill off with use? Thanks for any suggestions!

Sealing Concrete Garage Floor

I would just put a good clear concrete floor sealer but if you decide to put some colour on it get some runners and place them where the tires on your vehicle will be. Hot tires peel off any paint in no time.

I used a 50/50 mixture of kerosene and tung oil. Cleaned new concrete with TSP and rinsed, rolled on the mixture and buffed with a scotch brite pad. About a week later redid it. Warning though trying to use a buffer on a slick floor can be dangerous. You cannot manhandle the buffer. Also if you put it on don't plan on being able to etch it later and put paint on it.

Another trick is to stain it prior to sealing. I have done a few shop floors with stain approved by the DOT for marking concrete. I used 'handicapped blue'. Even steel wheeled engine stands with over 500#s of marine engine on them didn't harm it.

Sealing Concrete Garage Floor

Hey,

Again, the best source I've found for info on concrete sealers is www.mightyseal.com. Check out their "educational link" it has a lot of info about different kinds of sealers - as I said earlier, they even mention the kerosene trick on there. Even though they are a retail site, they still have some great info.

www.concretenetwork.org also provides some excellent help.

Hope that helps,
Pilot
