Seal granite before grout?

I am sure this has been covered in past posts,I can not seem to find it.The title says my question.Do you seal Granite before you grout?
Thank you in advance.

I have heard it can be done either way...before or after. Just make sure if you do seal before you grout to not get any sealer inbetween tiles, the grout may not adhere to the fullest extent!

Hang on a second!! Some granites don't need to be sealed AT ALL! The only granites I'd worry about sealing before grouting would be flame honed. If you're working with polished stone, I wouldn't worry about it. It'll clean up fine.

As for how to determine whether your particular stone needs to be sealed or not, you can take a sopping wet sponge and place it on the granite. After a couple of minutes, remove the sponge and wipe off the excess water. If there's a dark spot on the granite, it should be sealed (after it dries, of course!). if not, you're wasting your time and money.
