The local Buff & Coat franchise is offering a pretty screaming deal on their basic screen and recoat service ($0.50/sq. ft.). I'm really tempted to try it out, but I'm afraid that the new layer of poly may not bond to my existing finish.
My current flooring is maple, which the previous owners kept covered with carpet for probably the past 30+ years. The finish is pretty old and dull, though there are not a lot scratches or stains, fortunately. I've heard that new finish will not bond well if there's any remaining wax on the existing finish. Stripping the wax and buffing apparently is not sufficient to remove it, so a full sanding and refinish is likely necessary.
Any thoughts? Would I be wasting my money in trying to save it by going the screen and recoat route?
