Rotten End Joists

Hi peeps

I will be laying new laminate flooring soon but first I need to repair the ends of three joists. Whats the best way to do this without taking up the whole floor?? Any links with pictures would be great.

Regards Bill

Are the joists dry rotted out? If so how far, and most important is why? The dry rot must be removed and treated with boric acid to kill any of the organism that is left. Then you can usually sister the joist. Pictures of your problem would help determine how much repair is needed.

No it is wet rot caused by the ends being sat on top of the brick without any damp course.

Same thing 'dry rot" is caused by dampness.

Sister pressure-treated joists of the same size to the damaged joists.
Turn the "crown" of the boards up. No need to treat the old joists with anything unless they're infested with termites.
Good luck!
Mike
