resealing limestone tiles?
I had limestone tiles put in approx. 3 years ago in the bathroom.
I was told that after 2-3 years, I would have to reseal them.
How would I do that?
Buy some stone sealer and apply it to the stone.:)
Would I have to remove the sealer that is on there now?
What product would I use to do that?
Shouldn't have to remove previous sealer. There are stone sealers available at Home Depot. You could also seek out one of the many AquaMix products. They may also be available at Home Depot in some areas. Otherwise any home center or local tile store can get you stone sealers. They are also available on the Internet, try SCI (I think it's SCI).
The floor should be cleaned thoroughly first, allow it to dry then seal it according the sealer manufacturer's recommendations.
You could splash a little water on the floor here and there and after about ten minutes, if it is still beaded the floor is still sealed. :)

The contractor that did the limestone installation said that it should be resealed in approx. 2-3 years.
But since he is no expert on tile installation, I will follow your recommendation.

Occaisional resealing of all stone tile installations is a good
recommendation but to say to do it every two to three years would
really depend on the kind of use and the method and frequency of
cleaning the area gets. In some cases two to three years may be too long to wait.:)
A simple water test like I mentioned above will determine if sealer is
I just did the test. (The bathroom is the master ensuite, and no children use it. And I keep it very clean),
After 30 minutes of sprinkled water being on the tiles. The beads of water were all there and none had been absorbed.
So I think that I will wait to do the resealing for now.
