Replacing wrong color grout - 900 SF of tile
I just had 900 SF of 18" porcelain tile installed and they used the wrong color grout. It is bright white and was supposed to be light tan (Tec - pearl), which is very similar in color to the tile. I wanted the grout to blend with the tile for a uniform look, but instead it looks like a checkerboard. Is it possible/practical to grind out the existing grout and re-grout with the correct color? The same problem occured on the kitchen backsplash as well. Thank you.

Lonidier, that's A LOT of grout to remove. It's a very messy job. I'd vote a big NO for that choice (unless the contractor will do it at no charge)
![]() A less costly and messy solution would be a grout colorant. It's like staining the grout: http://www.aquamix.com/products/pg_d...5042&pgid=8374

Thanks for your reply. Are the grout colorants permanent, or do they need to be re-applied periodically? I have not made the final payment to the tile company yet.

It's as permanent as it can get. Grout on a floor will get dirty but the color itself shouldn't fade. Actually, the colorant acts as a sealant to the grout itself. It's not a bad option.
Before you make any decision, talk with the contractor to see what they offer as a solution.

Forgot to mention - I already sealed the grout, using Aqua Mix Sealers Choice Gold. Would that prevent the grout colorant from working?
