Repair small wear marks in stair treads

My basement stairs have some small wear marks from use as my house is 60 years old. A plaster wall was built on top of the treads when the house was built so removal will not be easy as the plaster wall rests on top of the stair right where the stringer is.

What could I use to fill in the slight wear marks? Would woo putty be durable enough? The other option I am considering is the oak overlays for the treads but that's quite more involved and pricey.

Filler will not work unless it's covered with carpet, even then it may crumble.
Over lays need a solid surface under them, (no gaps).
Sand them or replace them. Plaster can be repaired.

You might want to embrace the authentic patina until you can deal with rebuilding the stairs.
