Removing self stick vinyl tiles from vinyl flooring

The previous owner of my home laid vinyl self-adhesive tiles over the vinyl flooring in the kitchen. I've been told the vinyl below was in good shape when she did this. Unfortunately, the self stick tiles are coming up and the corners are breaking off every time I mop! I've even cut my foot on a couple of corners. I'd like to remove the tiles and try to save the old vinyl until I can afford to replace it. Is it possible????????

Removing self stick vinyl tiles from vinyl flooring

Possible but not likly. Use a heat gun and a putty knife to get it off. Have a trash can handy with a liner in it to put it in.
But then your stuck with a sticky mess left on the floor from the old glue.
Mineral spirts will get it off but it's highly flamable. Open all the windows and doors, and shut off any source of an open flame, pilot lights and the water heater if it's a gas heater.

Thanks, Joe! I knew it wasn't going to be easy, if it could be done. I'll give it a try...worst case, I have to go buy some new vinyl.
