Removing Laticrete Fortified Thinset

Installed 18 x 18 porcelain with sanded grout by contractor. Didn't like it. Removed it and ground the floors down to remove thinset.

Later installed 18 x 18 porcelain with "laticrete fortified" thinset. Had moisture issue and needed to remove 2nd installtion of tiles.

However, the laticrete thinset will not come up. I used a diamond stone grinding blocks and the SCARIFIERS on the same grinder. The stones just gunked up and didn't remove the thinset, and the scarifiers only knocked down the thin set - sort of.

What in the world can I do to get this stuff up so I can level it and put down laminate planks? Thanks for your help.

Removing Laticrete Fortified Thinset

The thinset came dry, I mixed it. It was applied to a cement slab and I back buttered the porcelain tiles. There was moisture rising up from under the slab that loosened the thinset forcing me to remove all of the tile.

I had to have back surgery and never got back to removing the thin set for months, that's when I rented the grinder and learned that it's not going to come up.

Did the grinding cup look something like this?

I've also used a commercial floor buffer with a set of carborundum stones---this worked very well, but the area was large---not sure how well it would work in a confined space.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble---that is unusual.
