removing carpet tips...

Hi all. We are going to be getting new carpet installed soon. After finding out how much they all charge to remove and haul away the old carpet, I decided to remove it up myself. I thought I would ask the experts for tips, tricks etc since I have never done anything like this before.
best regards
Dave

When removing the carpet and pad, there will be staples with chunks of pad trapped in them if it was installed on a wood subfloor.
instead of pulling up all the staples, you can just rub your shoe across the staple to remove the pad chunks.
Cut the carpet into managable strips if you have to as well.

So the staples don't need to be removed then. that will save some time! Should they be tapped down? We've also noticed some squeaky floorboards. I think this would be a good time to tighten them up. is it as easy as just putting another nail or two into the offending floorboards?
thanks for the response!
