Removing 2 layers of sheet vinyl

Help! I'm slowly removing 3 layers of vinyl floor down to the plywood. I can remove the vinyl squares and then use a prybar to loosen the other two layers of sheet vinyl. The problem is this: how to cut the 2 remaining layers of sheet vinyl so I remove it in a manageable size. I've tried jigsaw and dremel multimaster. But it seems to inadequate for the job.

Any suggestions?

Thanks all.

You must have dull blades. I have taken up hundreds of yards of vinyl. Just cut it up with a utility knife.

...or a circular saw set to the required depth.

Been doing this for more than thirty years and never once had a floor covering of this type that couldn't be removed with a little effort.

You need to identify what that plywood is. Chances are the vinyl was installed over a 1/4" ply or something, and that has to be removed too down to the subfloor. Get to an edge or drill a hole to see and measure what is there. Then report back here.

Depends on what he or she is installing whether the underlayment has to come up or not, They didn't say. You could concievably install laminate or Konecto over the old underlayment.

Like Rusty said get some good sharp blades, and cut it in to strips, the smaller the strip the easy to peel.

We have cut into 3-5 inches strip before just to get it loose.
