Removed linoleum on slab foundation to install ceramic tile... Question?

Hi everyone,

I'm about to begin my bathroom redo project. It's the first floor powder room. The house is built on a slab foundation. Last night I took out the vanity/mirror, removed the toilet, and removed the baseboard trim/quarterround. I then ripped up the old linoleum, which was actually two layers. The linoleum came up pretty easily, but there are places where a greyish adhesive remains attached to the floor and I'll have to scrape that up too, which shouldn't be very difficult.

My question is, once I have all the adhesive removed, do I need to do anything to the floor to prepare it for the thinset? The slab appears to be in good shape, but it seems kind of shiney, like an epoxy or something was applied before the linoleum. Should I use something to remove that before the thinset?

Thanks,

Kevin

If it is epoxy,i doubt the thinset will work, but maybe a tile guy will chime in.

How old is the house/sheet goods?

I suggest using a razor scraper and removing as much as you can --then a good modified thinset should stick just fine---

If you are concerned or the floor is still a mess from the glue and backer---encapsulating it in a self leveling compound might be called for.

Jifset mixed with Linwebers latex is ideal for this situation.--Mike------

Thanks for the reply... I've decided to go with a laminate floor instead.
