Refinishing wood floors
 

I've helped other people refinish wood floors a long time ago, but I was never in charge of doing it.

I need to do my own floors and looking for a primer on the steps.

I want to use a dark stain on the flooring as well.
I have seen floors where it looks as if there is no polyurethane on them, just stain, how do they achieve this look?

if possible, keep the floors as light a color as possible. this helps hide dirt and scratches, etc.
they most likely used a satin floor finish to have it protected and not shiny.

we just refinished the red oak floors in our new house last month. We chose to use a satin/oil finish and are VERY happy with the results. The oil gave the floors a warm feeling, instead of the almost clear finish that the water sealer would.
