Default Refinishing Laminate - Applying Poly

Curious if anyone has experience with Varathane or Wood Solv products which are made to coat laminate with polyurethane. The cost for the gallon of primer and poly is about $100 all together.

These products include an acid etching or abrading primer which sets up the laminate to receive the poly and cause it to apparantly stick tightly.

I've read the manufacturers' specs and they are clear enough for this application. I know there will be many skeptics, but if you can get the latest high tech paint to stick to glass or porcelain, than it seems reasonable that the right chemistry potentially makes all this possible.

I've talked to one contractor who swears by WoodSolv for this application, and states that he has had success with 90% of his jobs. The only reported challenge is getting the old wax etc off of the laminate.

Has anyone tried the Varathane or the WoodSolv made for recoating laminates?
