Refinishing hardwood with many screw holes?

I bought a 1962 house with pink ceramic tiles everywhere except the two bedroom. The two bedroom have nice hardwood flooring. I removed the tiles and found screwed-in plywood. I removed a small plywood piece and found the original hardwood flooring looking good.



However there is 15 to 20 screws per plywood sheet causing this many holes in the hardwood below. Will it look good if I cover these holes with wood putty and refinish the floor? Or is screwed-in plywood a hardwood killer?

Do you have pictures of refinished hardwood that had that many holes in it?

Depends on what you think looks good, some people think it adds "charater" I think it looks like poop but hay it's not my floor.
Since someone screwed up and had a seam in the wrong location anyway I'd be tempted to replace the floor with all new and weave it in like it was suppost to be done in the first place.
Was this an addition?

I dont understand what seam you are referencing. The line is dust/dirt from where I removed a small piece of plywood that covered this hardwood. It all seems to be weaved properly. It's not an addition.

I see what you mean now, that dark line just looked like a seam. My bad.
I've just seen it done that way many times when someone builds an addition.
Instead of making the seam between the door stop moulding so it can be covered with a threshold they try to make it easy on there self and because a ciruler saw can not cut closer then 1-1/2 from the jambs they cut it in the wrong spot.

you could either fill them and sand smooth or get a plug cutter and drill slightly bigger holes and fill with plugs with face grain so they would blend in better. do a sample on scrap or a piece of oak and see which looks better.

A plug cutter would not work because there is no pilot, but a forister bit would.

you will never make them disappear, I ran into this on a kitchen before.
Was some underlayment with vinyl installed over hardwood. And new hardwood was already in the budget, other then the holes, old floor was in good shape.
We had the flooring guys spend a day sanding it. Problem was, the nails.screws had left black rust marks in every hole.
Even with putty, was no way to get rid of them and every one would stick out.

Will it work? Yes.
Will it look good? depends on your definition of good.

Google reclaimed wood flooring.
Some people want to see there floors all full or black nail holes and pay a ton of money for it.

We see stuff like this a lot. Just buy some wood patch, trowel fill the entire floor and then sand. You may need to fill the holes a couple times, but you can make them barely visible. A couple good wood fillers are; timbermate and woodwise. Hope this helps.
