Refinishing hardwood floors

How hard is it to refinish hardwood floors yourself? I have about 700 square feet of flooring that would look much better to refinish, but would really love to do it myself. Also an estimate on how much it would cost. Thanks

Heh, well, i wouldn't really say hard per say but if your doing it yourself, prepared to be very frustrated. Mainly because the equipment you'll have to use is junk compared to what a business would use and takes ATLEAST twice as long. Between rentals and supplies, you'll probably run around 5-$600 plus back pain =)

After doing some research and checking the floors with the water test I believe they just need screening not completly sanded down. I also checked around and found out that it would only cost me about 3 or 400 dollars more to have someone that does it for a living. I pretty sure I have a no brainer here.. thanks .

Good thinking and the floor refinisher will have suggestions for what is best for your situation.

Now you can spend your time getting things covered and sealed up against the sawdust. Much as one tries to contain it, the sawdust---like drywall dust---has a way of getting everywhere. You will probably want to have a shop vac with a drywall dust filter on hand if you don't have one already.
