Refinishing Hardwood

I'm about to refinish some hardwood floors, and I don't have a drum sander. Is it possible to sand the entire floor with a belt sander?

Assuming we're talking about a professional grade belt sander and not a hand held belt sander, both will perform the same function. The belt sander is the preferred piece of equipment used by most contractors. Drum sanders tend to leave more chatter than a belt sander.

This question is not to be confused with my mindset, I really want to know if its possible, I've seen replys on this before, I guess my real question is why can't this be done, I appreicate anyone's thoughts on this, thanks

Best to rent a flat panel sander from HD. THese are far more forgiving than the traditional belt "lawn mover type" of sanders. Get a ton of paper, you will need it. What finish are you putting down?

I'm not presently doing my floors, the op is, I was just curious as to if you could use your belt sander and do the floors, don't know if its because it would take you forever or if you couldn't do a good job with it, never got a good answer on it. I've used the rentals before, heavy to load in the car or truck, ton of dust everywhere. thanks for replying.
