refinish bamboo?

so i was reading that thread about using the drum sander on utility oak flooring, about what i expected. then i had a thought as i look at this piece of bamboo in front of me. solid bamboo is stranded pieces of very fine bamboo. if you hit this with 36grit 15 years down the road i would imagine you would rip the strands apart. how does a guy refinish bamboo or can you? i was about to do my carpeted and pergo areas with solid bamboo but do want a floor that can be refinished 15-20 years down the road if need be.
