Redo stairs

16 gauge is a little more common but both could be used, and use plenty of constructing adhesive before applying the treads

Redo stairs

What should be the minimum depth for a tread (I live in Michigan if it makes any difference)?
If I go with Retrotreads from Stairtek, I will have between 9"1/2 and 9"3/4 (bullnose included).....Is that OK?
I've read somewhere it should be 10" + 1" for the nose, so a total of 11"

1 more question: 18 gauge nails are not strong enough for treads, right?

Redo stairs

Around here 9" is acceptable although national building code is set at 10". Measured from face of riser to face of riser" overhang may not exceed 1-1/4
I would not use a gauge less than 16g on treads
