to redgard, or not to redgard?

i have a 4 mil poly vapor barrier behind my durock, lapping the oatey floor membrane.
insulation is icynene open cell.

should i redgard the durock on the tile side, or just thinset and go with the tiles?

also, would you guys tape/thinset the joints, and/or silicone the joints/corners prior to tiling?

i am also planning on building a shampoo niche once i start tiling the walls to make it work with layout nicely.
the wall is a 2X3, so i'm pretty sure no standard pre-made niche will fit. i'm planning on PLing in some durock, maybe redgarding it, and tiling as usual. any specific recs for a custom niche like this?

thanks a lot.
