Re-Finishing Oak Floors

Our home was built in the '50s and has t&g oak flooring. Quite common in older homes many short lengths joined end-to-end in a random pattern.

We rented a large orbital sander from Home Depot which did a great job of sanding and even levelling the floor ready for finishing.

We really like the light colored appearance of the floor after sanding and would like to preserve the light color rather than the much darker appearance after finishing with clear polyurethane.

Is there a sealer or a stain that anyone would recommend to preserve a lighter color after finishing?

Thanks, appreciate any advice. John aka JayKay

Water based floor poly will not darken as much oil based.

Re-Finishing Oak Floors

We used Minwax "natural" stain. on these floors followed with coats of oil based poly.

you can see other pics of them here-----> new wood flooring

how long did the sanding take with the orbital? One more thing, it is a must to post your pictures. Even if you don'tr have before pics, its not to late for the during and after pics...
Good luck
