Radiant Floor Heating - wire repair
I am preparing to lay a tile bathroom for and first step is I laid out an electric, radiant floor heating system (from ThermoSoft). The wires were laid on backerboard and then I poured a thin coat of self-leveling compound over the whole floor.

It's a differen long story but bottom line is in one area where the surface of the wires were still slightly exposed, one of the wires got "sraped" to where I can see just a hairline scrape in teh wire coating, exposing the metal shield just under the plastic coding. Continuity is still in tact and I checked the resistance and there is absolutely no change as a result.

Question is whether I should put anything on that scrape before I being to lay tile? Shoudl I be concerned that water in teh thinset could perhaps seep in and short something out?

I believe I would contact the manufacturer and ask them what the appropriate repair is.

Any progress on this??? Did you contact Thermosoft? I know those guys, they will be very willing to help you out and answer your questions.

I had already concluded a course of action of applying Liquid Electrical Tape over the damaged spot but I called Thermosoft today to confirm.

After confirming there is no resistance across the ground they agreed that the liquid tape is the right course of action. Interesting addition is that they recommend this over just wrapping the wire in regular electric tape. This is because thinset can be somewhat accidic and may seep under the tape, while the liquid version will give a watertight seal.

Good for you! I told you the folks at Thermosoft would be helpful.

Did they add anything to the conversation regarding the warranty or suggest a repair kist instead of the liquid tape?
