Questions about floor leveling. SLC or roofing material?

Hi, this if my first post here, but I've been reading a lot of posts, and still have a few quesitons.

I have Teragren solid strand bamboo flooring that I'm about to install. It's 3/8" thick and 3 3/4" wide and will be nailed down with a cleat. My 5/8" plywood subfloor has a few high and low spots that I'm trying to smooth out. I sanded about 1/8" off the high spots with a belt sander, and am trying to decide how much more I should sand off, and then which method I should use to fill in the low spots. My floor is structurally sound, and this is the second floor, so there's no access to the joists. The worst area is two high joists about 5 or 6 feet apart with a low spot in between. It's about 5/16" from the high spot to the low spot. There are several other high and low spots as well, but they're not as bad.

My questions are how much more can I sand off of the high spots, and should I use shingles/felt paper or a self leveling compound to fill in the lows? And if I use a SLC, which one is best and can you nail through it?

Thanks a lot!!

-Tim

Nope! No rigid fillers can be used for that reason.

Use the felt product and don't get too anal about it, it will work out OK.

OK, thanks Bud! Thanks for the tip about not being anal too, cuz I have a tendency to overthink things!

It's easy to get carried away marathon-thinking about such things. I understand where you are coming from, it happens a lot on all of these (How To) forums. Too much information...a lot of it bad information.
