Question on installing tile

I am remodeling my bathroom. I had the vinyl flooring that were 12" squares they just glued onto the wood sub floor. When removing the vinyl squares it left a tacky glue but its not visible. When u walk on the subfloor, your shoes will stick to it a bit.

My question is can I tile over top of the wood sub floor as it is? If not, what is the best remedy for this situation?

Question on installing tile

Most people think the wood under the vinyl is the subfloor. In most cases it's the underlayment which is probably 1/4" or less thick. If it is a thin sheet of ply or OSB or ?, you need to removed that too. You can then evaluate the subfloor, re fasten as necessary and add more ply if needed or install a tile backer board, (cement board) or a membrane such as Ditra or one from Noble.

Back to your original question about tiling right over wood. Not a good method at all, esp. in a room that may get damp.
