Putty injection?

I am restoring an 80 year old pine wood floor. Some areas have some serious termite damage. Not bad enough to replace the planks, but requiring substantial putty filling.
I used a router to open up the top of the galleries and have been laboriously filling them with putty(Durham's Rockhard with brown tempura paint to color).
I have been forcing the putty into the cracks with a putty knife, but it occurred to me that this would go a lot easier if it could be pumped in with some kind of refillable device like a caulking gun. Is there any such thing, or has anyone done a DIY version? It seems like I should be able to somehow us a used caulking tube that water based latex caulk came in, push out the plunger cup, refill with about a cup of putty and put the cup back in.
