pulled up old carpet - HELP!

Please help- I pulled up carpet that was down about 25 yrs, and the backing on the padding has formed a brown gum-like residue on the hardwood floor.Any idea how to remove this easily, some sort of solvent, that can be used to scrape it off that won't harm the floor? What a mess! Thanks for any suggestions, Matisse- new to the group!

pulled up old carpet - HELP!

this may be a similar issue to what I'm facing trying to remove adhesive from the bottom of linoleum that is attached to my hardwood... while I haven't attempted it yet I've heard that boiling water will liquify the glue...

Talk to a professional flooring installer. There are numerous products out there that can be used to remove carpet glue. The question will be which can be used and won't hurt the hardwood floor. I've used a product called Bean-E-Doo. It is messy, stinky but is soybean oil based so it may not harm hardwood (check first). We used it to get a glue down mess off a concrete floor so we could seal the floor (moisture problems).
