Proper coverage of basement slab

I want to put cermanic tile in my basement. The floor surface is a cement slab. My home is 4 years old. Do I need to place a sub floor down first before laying the tile? And if I do what type do I use?

Someone please give me some advice as I would like to start on this project soon.

You wouldn't use a "subfloor" over a concrete floor. Tile can be installed directly to the concrete.

What condition is the concrete in?
Any cracks?
Is the surface reasonably flat?
What size tile do you desire?
