Pressboard subfloor

Or at least that's what it appears to be. House built in the 70's located in the Southeast. It has this 1/2" pressboard stuff laid over what looks like some type of 1 x 6 laid diagnoally across the floor joists. Was this stuff common back then? Seems to be a solid floor, but....

I want to lay tile in kitchen, it currently is linoleum. So once I take up the lino, can I just lay some concrete board down and tape it?

I was also told at a flooring store I couldn't put hardwoods down over this stuff, that the nails wouldn't hold.

thanks for any help

If it's particle board that was used for the lino it has to go, if it's OSB it can stay, OSB looks like alot of small pieces of wood glued together.
