Prepping a cement floor for tile. Carpet glue removal??

Hi Everyone!

I'm ready to start laying tile in a basement room. The concrete has come residual glue (apx 1/16" thick max in areas) in the corners to hold down that recycled *foam* stuff that goes under carpet. I don't know how I should remove it. I tried some goof off on a 6" area then found out that is a no-no. Then I found out mechanical methods are best. I can scrape it up at a rate of 1 square foot per 5 minutes with the tools I'm using

How can I get this crap up? My tools don't even get all of it up! Should I scrape the majority of it and call it a day, toss some mud over it?

I saw some youtube videos where people were "grinding" concrete floors and things of that nature. I can totally go to home depot and rent a tool if need be.

Thanks Everyone!! I have a surgery on the 6th for my wrist and I hope to finish this before then. Prompt responses are appreciated

-Dave

Edit: I have an angle grinder that I use for car work, I tossed a flapper wheel on it and it is zipping the floor right up! (Smells terrible!) but it's working great. I feel this surface will be adequate for the mud.

Should be using a scraper like this one.
Make sure to also get some extra blades.
You just not going to be able to get 100 % of, just would on the bulk of the high places.

Soak it with warm soapy water---then scrape as much as you can---
DO NOT USE ANY CHEMICALS--they will drive the stuff deep into the porous concrete--causing a bond breaker--

If that doesn't help--two choices---grind it off with a floor buffer equipped with carborundum stones--

Or--set the tile over the residue---use a high quality modified thinset-
-or mix your own using a liquid latex and unmodified--like Kerabond and Keralastic by Mepei.

I don't think you need to encapsulate that under self leveling compound--but that is a third option.

I ended up using a wire wheel on an angle grinder, it worked GREAT!. Not a regular wire wheel though, one of those ones rated to 20,000 RPM where the wires are twisted together. It would even eat through the concrete if I let it sit long enough!! Awesome! All the tile is laid as well. Thanks Everyone!
