Polyurethane Issue w/ hardwood floors
Greetings! First thank you for the taking the time to check out this post.

Here's my issue: My father-in-law decided that he wanted to paint our hardfloors with a high gloss, high build polyurethane coating (I believe the product used was minwax). After completing the job, the polyurethane coating developed what can best be described as a shattered-glass look, or almost like a spider-web effect. It appears that the polyurethane is cracked.

Has anyone here ever heard of this and if so, thoughts on how it might be able to be fixed? Any help would be immensely appreciated! Thanks again for your time! :)

What was he applying the poly over? Bare wood? Previously coated wood? Factory finish? What was the floor cleaned with prior to coating? What coating methodology did he follow to apply it? Pictures?

Live Oak has all the right questions, a shot in the dark as to the cause, too much applied at one time, poly must be applied in very thin multiple layers, with proper surface preparation to start and between coatings. Sure sounds to me like this did not happen.

My Dad the same thing years ago. The flooring guy told me regular poly gets too hard for hardwood floors. The stuff they use stays pliable and expands/contracts with the floor.
