ply wood
can I paint a plywood subfloor. The carpet is ready to go into someone's dump. Can't clean it anymore and can't afford new floors at this time. Seems like I saw on one of the home improvements shows that they stained each piece of plywood underneath the carpet a diffrent color stain and it looked pretty good. What do you think of this?

You can do whatever you would like to the floor. Paint will cover the best and hide all imperfections. If the plywood is stained from spills and cleaning, a wood stain would not cover well. Keep in mind what you intend to install in the future. If you need to glue anything down, the plywood is porous and allows glue to seep into it forming a better bond. If you paint it, you'll remove this ability to absorb the glue.

And if you keep the plywood as "the" flooring, remember it's not sanitary and splinters will be a problem.
