Plumb line under tile adhesive

I am laying tile for the first time. I have prepped the floor and am ready to lay out the tile and start cutting and gluing down the tile.

I have seen video tutorials about putting down a chalk line, but how do you line up the tile to the line if the floor is covered with adhesive?

You need to be using thin set in a bag that you mix up not some tile glue or mastic.
Use red chaulk, easer to see and will not just wipe off.

Most tile setters snap the lines---a grid ,actually that holds four tiles(4 square foot)---then spray the line with hair spray or clear lacquer,to keep the lines from getting wiped off during sweeping.

I would not use red chalk--it will get on your shoes and may ruin carpet as you walk around the house.

I usually set two squares at a time---about 8 square foot---leaving the down line exposed---

You are not supposed to use red chalk on any flooring product. It will bleed thru vinyl, stain carpet, etc.

Thanks Rusty--I was trying to be tactful---I use orange or blue on concrete---then spray down the lines---red is only used for rough framing---darn permanent color---I sure don't want to buy someone a new rug.

We carpet and vinyl installers use white only. I have seen blue and/or red used on vinyl and it came thru the seams.

good to know---I've never tried white--- bet that white is easy to accidentally wipe off before it been sprayed down
