Please Help (Is this shoddy work?)

Not sure HOW they can fix it to my satisfaction when they practically already ruined the floor.

What level of 'perfection' is reasonable here? How should they fix those gaps? Can they cut the floor while it's already in place? Will that just leave the surrounding floor all scratched? If they have to 'buff' the floor to remove the glue, does that ruin my warranty by Teragren?

You would have to call the manufacterer about the warranty. I would not pay them until they do something with that mess, even if they have to replace it. Give them 30 days to make a decision and then file a claim in small claims court. There is no way you should accept that.

I talked to my salesman at the flooring store today. He said the installers "Have no idea" how the glue got everywhere. Give me a break - they left their glue gun laying right on the subfloor, which leaked all over and they tracked it around. After they left Friday I found the glue on the floor and the spot where the biggest glue glob was had been wiped up and a piece of cardboard put on top of it - so I know they know at least that much was their fault. Then told me that because it's a hallway, then expansion gaps aren't needed since it's a small area. But that width there is still a good 7 feet, so I'd think it needs some expansion.

The installer is supposedly ordering some special adhesive remover that he didn't have handy. I wonder what that will be.

I suppose he thinks WE are the ones who tracked glue all over??

The best way to clean MC glue is with mineral spirits and a Mr Clean Magic Sponge .
Rub it nice and easy so as not to rub the finish off . will take time .

....I aplogize if earlier I came accross as not believing your concerns but sometimes ya just need pics to look at.

They show a serious lack of professionalism and I wouldnt expect to get paid if I did work like that. My concern now is that the adhesive they used didnt harm the finish.

No Problem, I totally understand.

Can I ask ... is there ANY logic to what they did in front of the door (the 'expansion gap' but then the piece in there that would block any expansion). That's one that really confuses me.

I am worried about them trying to get the marks out. My plan is first to have the salesman out tomorrow morning to see the floor, and then after that I will try the magic eraser and some mineral spirits.

I was told by Teragren to NOT use Goof Off, that it will harm the finish, and I'm afraid whatever their special solvent is that they would bring is going to be something along those lines.

Also, sorry to be annoying, but for the pros here, do you skip the tapping block thing? I'm just wondering if that was a really 'hack' thing to do, or if that's normal for experienced installers.

I just need to be somewhat prepared with where their faults lie, because when faced with confrontation, I tend to easily be swayed to think *I* am the one who is being overly picky and talked into thinking that everything is just fine.

Don't you try and clean the glue off . Once you do it is your problem then .
Keep them liable for the floor .
If they feed you a line tell them you are going to hire a independent inspector .

I wouldn't touch that floor if I were you. The more you try to 'fix' yourself, the less wrong with it when you need to prove that they were incompetent installers.

The block in the expansion gap looks to me like a spacer. They probably had many in there, and pulled them out when the floor was done. That last one looks like it's stuck in there, so they probably just left it.
